The Bligh Government used its numbers to gag debate in State Parliament over the impact of Labor's new electricity pricing, the LNP said today.
Shadow Minister for Energy and Water Utilities Steve Dickson said all members of the Bligh Government were hell-bent on forcing through laws that would affect future home and business power bills – but without fair debate, or any discussion.
"Queenslanders know that for the past five years household electricity prices have risen $700 – with another $190 hit to come with Labor's carbon tax in 2012," said Mr Dickson.
"Labor's current electricity pricing method is flawed and unfair - and should be replaced," said Mr Dickson.
"As part of the Opposition's Budget Reply Speech the LNP said it was committed to abolishing the current system. It would be replaced with a pricing method that is fair and reasonable to families and businesses.
No one trusts the Bligh Government with electricity bills. This is the government and premier who promised people would be better off with privatisation."
Mr Dickson said the Premier and Energy Minister Stephen Robertson weren't serious about the new Parliamentary committee system which was setup to provide public scrutiny and input into legislation.
"This isn't happening. Labor just continues to raise taxes and charges that are hurting family budgets.
The CanDo LNP team will continue to stand up for Queenslanders by exposing and opposing Labor's economic mismanagement".
