WARMING OF THE ARCTIC - CARBON TAX

I am going to say a few words which, on their face, will give all those opposite a warm and fuzzy inner glow about their claim that we need a carbon tax.

I am going to quote from a report submitted for inclusion into the Monthly Weather Review, compiled by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, which is an agency of the United states federal Department of Commerce. I am also going to quote a Washington Post article titled ‘Arctic Ocean Getting Warm; Seals Vanish and Icebergs Melt.

Both the report and newspaper article provide some very disturbing reading. The transcripts commence—

The Arctic seems to be warming up. Reports from fishermen...who sail about the eastern Arctic, all point to a radical change in climatic conditions, and the hitherto unheard of high temperatures in that part of the earth’s surface. ...the Norwegian Department of Commerce sent an expedition...to survey...and take soundings of the adjacent waters, and make other ocean-o-graphic investigations.

Soundings were taken to a depth of 3,100 metres. These show the Gulf Stream very warm and it could be traced as a surface current beyond the 81st parallel. The report continues—

Many old landmarks are so changed as to be unrecognisable. Where formerly great masses of ice were found, there are now accumulations of earth and stones. At many points where glaciers formerly extended far into the sea, they have entirely disappeared.

Upon reading this report I was thinking to myself that maybe there is a bit more to the global warming situation. The news in the report did not get any better. The report continued—

Very few seals and no white fish are now found in the eastern Arctic, while vast shoals of herrings and smelts which have never before ventured so far north are being encountered in the old seal fishing grounds.

Just when I thought all was lost, a ray of hope. Yes, a ray of hope appeared before me as I was trying to digest this seemingly dire scenario for the planet. You see, the date of that article in the Washington Post was 2 November 1922. Yes, 1922!

The date of the report submitted to the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration was 10 October 1922—89 years ago! Yes, 89 years ago. Even back then the global warming lunatics were trying to scare everyone to death with doomsday prophecies about the impending end of the planet as we know it.

Julia Gillard, Kevin Rudd, Wayne Swan, Penny Wong and all those opposite think they can cool the planet from an office block in Canberra by bashing us with a carbon tax. It is a nothing more than a Green con and they have fallen for it. They are going to tax the people of Queensland. They are going to take the money out of their pocket and they do not care. Just like the federal government, they are going to make this country uneconomical. They are making us unviable on a global basis. They should be held accountable.
